When I grow up

Cade told me tonight as he was going to bed that he no longer wanted to be a fire fighter.

"Oh yeah, well what do you want to be now?" I asked.  "I just want to be a plain person" He answered.

"So what job would you do as a plain person?"

He replied, "I want to take care of people and help them get better when they are sick"

"Oh, then that would be a doctor. Do you want to do that?"

He was pretty emphatic, "No, I don't want to be a doctor, I don't want to wear doctor clothes and I definitely don't want to go to an office"  I tried to tell him he could be a doctor without wearing a white coat, and see people in homes if he wanted. He thought about this then ended the conversation, reiterating, "Mom, I JUST want to be someone PLAIN".

So dear son, some day when you grow and become something, I'll remind you of your big dreams...to be plain.
