Bad Dreams

A first tonight - I think Cade just had his first experience of dreaming (and remembering it).  This was a just-fell-asleep dream. I was out in the living room working on the computer and heard Cade step out of his room and ask "Mom, do dreams come true?"

I first just quipped, "Well, sometimes they do" Thinking he was just using stall techniques for bedtime. Then He asked again, and this time I could tell he was tearful, "Mom, but do dreams from your eyes really come true?"

Now I was up and walking toward him, "What do you mean, Cade, dreams from your eyes? Did you see something?"

He then kind of whimpered that he had his eyes closed, and then he was in a boat and it was crashing into the water.  "Is that going to happen Mom? Will that come true?" He seemed absolutely convinced he had just been in that experience.

I explained that he was having a bad dream and that, no, it wouldn't come true.  "But it was so real", He said.  I tried to explain a bit that dreams did seem real, like a movie he was in, but that it was all unreal.  Hard concepts for a 3 year old.

It was age 3 that Tess first started having fears at night, after her first scary dream... let's hope Cade won't follow suite!
