Birthdays

Being in pre-school brings with it new challenges I hadn't even anticipated.

This particular challenge arrived in Tess's little pink backpack she takes to school: a birthday invitation.

The clever Barbie invitation left Tess in a "must attend" mood, as Barbie is a current obsession. I decided to go with the flow and let her attend, despite still not really knowing the names of anyone in her class.

As we arrived I whispered to Tess to tell me who Brayden was (the birthday girl) but Tess too seemed unaware of who's party we were at.

It was a very strange experience to be at a party that I didn't know anyone, let alone the child for whom I'd picked out a gift.  Despite my sleuth work I was constantly confounded as Tess seemed to call different people different names.  One girl she called "kendra" came to say Hi and I asked her when her birthday was.  "Today" she exclaimed.  I thought, oh this poor child is confused! I called another over that Tess had assured me was Brayden to ask her name, "Wayden" came out in a jumbled 3 year old speak and I determined this must be the girl!

Finally it was present time and to my shock who I thought was Kendra began to open presents. I then heard the "Wayden" girl called by an adult by the name "Rayden" (so much for sleuth work).

In the end - it really didn't matter. I sat to myself and Tess had a grand time with her classmates.  I slowly figured out which child went to what parent and think I have most of the names down now.
